MIAMI PROJECT DOCTORS PERFORM FIRST SCHWANN CELL TRANSPLANT
Doctors at The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, a Center of Excellence at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, performed the first-ever Food and Drug Administration approved Schwann cell transplantation in a patient with a new spinal cord injury. The procedure, performed at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center, is a Phase 1 clinical trial designed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of transplanting the patient’s own Schwann cells.

AN UNBREAKABLE BOND MAKES ITS WORLD DEBUT AT MIAMI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
A star-studded roster of attendees came out for the world debut of An Unbreakable Bond, a film by Emilio Estefan which documents the relationship between NFL Hall of Famer Nick Buoniconti, his son Marc, and their nearly three decade struggle to find a cure for spinal cord injuries. The film made its world debut on Tuesday, March 11th at the 31st edition of Miami Film Festival (MIFF), produced and presented by Miami Dade College (MDC), at the Olympia Theater at The Gusman Center for the Performing Arts.

Dedicated volunteers, many of whom are spinal cord injured (SCI), have a family member or close friend afflicted by SCI, draw upon their individual communities and resources to create greater awareness and raise funds on a grassroots level. Chapters are a vital element to reaching The Miami Project’s goal -- a cure for paralysis.

Tom Brokaw From NBC News to Serve as Master of Ceremonies
The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis, will present the 29th Annual Great Sports Legends Dinner at the Waldorf Astoria on Monday, September 29, 2014. The annual event, hosted by NFL Hall of Famer Nick Buoniconti and his son Marc, and chaired by Mark Dalton, raises funds to support the ground-breaking spinal cord injury research done by researchers at The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis – the world’s most comprehensive spinal cord injury research center which is based at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Tom Brokaw will serve as Master of Ceremonies of the dinner, which honors philanthropic heroes and sports legends that inspire and motivate those affected by spinal cord injuries.
The celebration assembles sports legends, celebrities, philanthropic icons and corporate leaders to support the efforts of The Buoniconti Fund Board of Directors and numerous longtime benefactors. The 2014 Great Sports Legends include Hakeem Olajuwon, Warren Sapp, Pedro Martinez, Joe Sakic, Bill Cowher, Mary Lou Retton and Lauryn Williams. Bill Simon will receive the Outstanding Business Leader Award. Grant Hill and Calvin Hill will accept the 2014 Buoniconti Fund Award. Erik Compton will be the 2014 Inspiration Award Recipient.
Sports legends, celebrities, philanthropic heroes and corporate leaders will again come out in force on Monday, September 29th at New York City’s famed Waldorf=Astoria, raising funds to support The Miami Project's ground-breaking spinal cord injury research.
